U.S. Army Unit Citation and Campaign Participation Headquarters & Headquarters Company 173d Airborne Brigade _________________________________________________________________________
Presidential Unit Citation 6-23 Nov 67, DAGO 5, 79; Amended DAGO 42, 69
CRITERIA The Presidential Unit Citation may be awarded to units of the Armed Forces of the United States and cobelligerent nations for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy occurring on or after December 7, 1941. The unit must display such gallantry, determination, and esprit de corps in accomplishing its mission under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions so as to set it apart from and above other units participating in the same campaign. The degree of heroism required is the same as that which would warrant the award of a Distinguished Service Cross to an individual.

Meritorious Unit Commendation 5 May 65-4 May 67, DAGO 48, 68
CRITERIA The Meritorious Unit Commendation is awarded to units for exceptionally meritorious conduct in performance of outstanding services for at least six continuous months during a period of military operations against an armed enemy on or after January 1, 1944. Although service in a combat zone is not required, the unit's accomplishments must be directly related to the larger combat effort. The unit must display such outstanding devotion and superior performance of exceptionally difficult tasks as to set it apart from and above other units with similar missions. The degree of achievement required is the same as that which would warrant award of the Legion of Merit to an individual.

RVN Gallantry Cross w/Palm 5 May 65-26 Sep 70, DAGO 51, 71
CRITERIA Awarded to all members of the Armed Forces of the United States and other Nations for valorous achievement in combat during the Vietnam conflict, March 1, 1961 through March 28, 1973. The Vietnam Cross of Gallantry is the equivalent of the French Croix de Guerre. The medal is a symbol of gratitude to the American and Allied soldiers who once worked and fought and sacrificed themselves for the freedom of the Republic of Vietnam.

RVN Civil Actions Honor Medal, FC 1 Apr 69-16 Mar 71, DAGO 5, 73
CRITERIA The Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Medal was awarded as an individual foreign award to some members of the United States Army. The unit citation of the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal was awarded certain units by the Vietnamese government for meritorious service during the period 1 March 1961 to 28 March 1974. Individuals who received the RVN Civil Actions Medal as an individual award are authorized to wear the medal. Personnel assigned to an unit which was awarded the medal are authorized to wear the unit award emblem.
