Accident Summary:

On 13 September 1968 at approximately 1430 hours, UH-1D, 66-1153 was on a resupply mission at "Artillery Hill", BT 515040. The aircraft was loaded with cargo and three passengers. The aircraft commander performed a hover check and was only able to maintain a steady 6400 RPM. He then landed and off-loaded one passenger along with two duffel bags. The aircraft commander then attempted to takeoff which seemed normal until the RPM began to decay rapidly. The aircraft commander reduced collective in an attempt to regain RPM. He then alerted his crew to the impending landing and landed the aircraft resulting in major damage
